OK, time to post the June camping trip to Woods Canyon Lake (30 miles due East of Payson), Aspen Campground. This is going to be an informal get together. No planned Lance events other than getting together as campers enjoying the beauty of Central Arizona camping. I think a regular evening social hour would sure be nice to get to know each other, share mods and get some photos of the group.
Here is the link to the reservation site:
Jayne and I will be at site 117. This is on the outer most part of the 3rd loop. We like this area because it backs up to the forest and it's not so congested as the other sites and the other 2 loops.
The dates are June 6-12. Early June is one of the best times of the year to go because:
1) The temps are cool at night and mildly warm during the day.
2) It's early for the monsoon rains so we usually have a full week of beautiful weather (except for last year, we got dumped on due to a storm blowing through AZ at that time)
3) The hummingbirds should be migrating but this can be a hit or miss, all depends on the temps leading up to these dates. I'll have feeders, perches and a camera set up for anyone wanting to photograph these beautiful creatures like this:
I'd be more than happy to help anyone with a camera but note, pics like those above are not from a point and shoot... :-)
I'll also have a ham radio set up and will be on the air, weather permitting, so if you have any interest in what that's all about drop in for an eye ball QSO (that's a face to face meet and greet in ham terms)...
Nightly rate is $22, if you have a AZ senior pass it's only $11. The campground host has Ice and firewood. The Woods Canyon Lake store is only about a 1/8 - 1/4 mile from the campground, if that. You can rent fishing boats there, hike trails, etc... The Osprey should be very active fishing like this one:
If you have questions post them here so everyone can see the Q&A.
Hope to see some of you join us! Who knows, it just might become your annual get away destination.
