Yep Polytetrafluoroethylene is the chemical name, Teflon is a name brand (DuPont?). It's a fluoride compound, which is nasty stuff in general (nasty enough that it'll kill your birds if you overheat your pans.)

 

Avoid fluoride where you can (particularly in toothpaste, water, and pans), except on your squeaky hinges and such.
